Bidding Summer Adieu with an Autumn Celebration
By Michael K.
In the United States, for as much as we like to have fun, we seem to throw parties only once in a blue moon. Think about it; as adults, the only time we really get together and enjoy the company of our friends is for a “special occasion” such as a birthday or anniversary. That’s no fun!
Did you know that in other developed countries around the world, including parts of Europe and much of South America, it is common to congregate much more frequently? It’s true; in fact, one of the most widely celebrated annual traditions around the world is the changing of the seasons.
Yes, these celebrations were born of festivals that would signify the end of winter and the opportunity to plant crops, a transition into a period of warmer weather, and then eventually a harvest. But that doesn’t mean we can’t still throw a party and have fun!
In reality, the end of summer, which falls on September 21 this year, represents a great opportunity to call your friends over and just relax before we head into the hectic season that is fall/winter. We at GoodDeals.com thought it would be fun to brainstorm a few ideas for a “Goodbye Summer, Hello Fall” party, and here’s what we came up with. Enjoy!
Campfire Sing-a-long:
If you live in an area that gets chilly in the wintertime, this may represent your last chance to get out and enjoy the warm weather. Why not set up a
mosquito trap
, start a fire in the back yard, and invite the friends over? It’s fun, easy, and doesn’t require a whole lot of planning. Besides, who doesn’t like roasting marshmallows?
Summer Barbeque:
Soon enough, it will be too cold to grill out in the backyard. Take advantage of the last days of summer by inviting your friends and family over for a time-honored American tradition. Don’t forget to keep Fido safe with an
electronic pet fence
.
Game Night:
This is one we have wanted to advocate for a while. What ever happened to friends getting together with their favorite games, and simply enjoying each other’s company? The kids will be just as entertained as they play with games or
activity centers
of their own.
These are just a few examples of ways to bring friends and family together for a day or night of fun and enjoying each others’ company as we welcome the autumn season. However you decide to bid summer “adieu,” remember there’s always a reason to have a party, and no such thing as too many!
