6 Indoor Play Climber Games

By Heather Andrews

Kids have a lot of energy and when you can’t take them outside, you need indoor games to play. Indoor soft play climbers are a great tool for pre-schools and daycares when engaging children in indoor group play. There are a lot of games that can be played on indoor soft foam climbers to help kids release their energy while learning or building motor skills.

Here are six games to play at preschool or daycare on your soft foam climbers.
  1. Color Matching - Choose a color and instruct each child to find that color on a play climber. Each child must be touching a piece of a climber that is the color you called out.

  2. Twister - Put your foam climbers close together. Use the twister spin board or your own created spinner to choose colors and hand or feet. When the wheel lands on the color, the child must put their hand or foot on that color on a foam climber.

  3. Spelling Bee - Arrange your climbers in a pyramid or line. Call out a word and ask one child to spell it. If they get the correct spelling of the word, they can climb up on one of the climbers. Next, call out a new word and ask the next child in line to spell the word. If they answer correctly, they will also now be allowed to sit, stand or lay on the indoor gym climbers. Continue until each child has had a chance to spell a word. The next round of words should allow the kids to move up in the pyramid or line.

  4. Simon says - Play Simon says on the soft foam climbers. Ask the children to “lay on a green climber” or “put on hand on a red climber”.

  5. Fun and easy stretching exercises - Use the climbers for various stretching exercises that are fun, easy and safe for toddlers and small children.

  6. Scavenger Hunt - Place removable stickers on the foam climbers. Place the climbers around the classroom. Provide the children with a description of the sticker they are looking for and give clues on the color and shape of the soft play climber each appears.

Be sure to mix up the games if you have several days of indoor play to keep the children mentally and physically engaged. If you have extra time for indoor activities, allow the children some free play time on the soft foam climbers.
