How To Be Prepared For Everything

Bookmark and Share
By Grace Chen

Many people think that they lead safe lives. They buy insurance on their homes and cars, wear seatbelts when they are out driving. They thoroughly cook their food, wash their hands frequently, and see their doctor for regular checkups.

While you can prevent many emergencies through careful planning and common sense, there are some things that you cannot avoid. Natural disasters like hurricanes, earthquakes, and tornadoes can leave people without basic necessities like clean drinking water. Accidents that can occur while traveling can leave outdoorsmen like hunters and hikers lost and without food. Even your car breaking down on an unknown or less traveled road can become an emergency if you can’t get help

Emergency Preparedness

Survival Kits – Insurance For The Unknown

You never know when a disaster will strike. If you live in an area where a disaster is more likely, such as in an area that receives frequent tornadoes, hurricanes or even earthquakes, then it is important to be prepared. If you plan on traveling away from the general public it is also a good idea to be prepared for an emergency. Survival kits can be useful tools for cases like these.

The actual contents of your survival kit will vary, depending on the space you have available and the amount that you are willing to spend, yet all have similarities. You will want to look for one that includes basic first aid equipment such as bandages and simple medication. You will also want to include food and water, as in a natural disaster you do not know how quickly you will be able to find these things again. Other useful items include emergency blankets, flashlights or whistles for alerting help, survival knives, candles, guidebooks, and other survival items.

Survival kits are designed to be lightweight and compact, making them easy to store at your home, office, or even in your car. It also makes them easy to carry with you when traveling or hiking so that you are always prepared. When choosing your survival kit, you will want one that has enough supplies to last you at least three days. This will give you time for help to find you. Remember that you will need supplies for every person in your household, so multiple-person homes should get larger kits designed for multiple users or several smaller kits.

There are great disaster-specific tips and tools all over the web. Try Hurricane Prepareness Playing Cards or weather games to help kids learn how to stay safe in a way that’s fun and easy to remember.

Prepared On The Road

Traveling by car presents a unique situation. If your battery dies or your tire goes flat you may think that you could just call the local AAA office. However, what happens if your cell battery dies or you are out of cell phone range? That is where an Auto Guard can help.

The Auto Guard is designed to be a useful tool in an emergency. It can charge your battery if you have no one around to give you a jump. It can fill your tires up to 250 PSI to allow you to drive to the nearest service station. It can charge portable devices like cell phone batteries. Its high-powered flashlight can help you see at night or act as a signal flare to call for help.

You should have a car emergency kit on hand for times when help can’t reach you. This can be as simple as a first aid kit, or as complex as the Traveler Emergency Kit. Pack for the climate your car will be in, whether that be extra water for hot climates or extra blankets and chains (for your tires) for those cold, rainy areas. Hopefully, you’ll never need to use these things, but you’ll be happy you have them if you do.

Being prepared for an emergency helps you to insure your safety and the safety of those closest to you.
